Made up of young and old, seasoned experts and those right out of college, the 45-member Congressional Muslim Staffers Association focuses on policy analysis, education, networking and professional development. What was once a simple effort to find religious accommodation for American Muslim Capitol Hill staffers has turned into a fully chartered Congressional organization that leaders call a microcosm of the politically, ethnically, and religiously diverse American Muslim community.

Gen. Powell Prompts National Conversation on Religious Diversity

Former Sec. of State Colin Powell honored and introduced to the American public on Sunday's "Meet the Press" Cpl. Kareem Khan, an American Muslim soldier killed in 2007 while serving in Iraq. He highlighted Cpl. Khan's service and sacrifice and rebuked ugly innuendo that has surfaced this election season questioning the place of American Muslims in the nation’s social fabric by asking, "Is there something wrong with being a Muslim in this country? The answer's no, that's not America."

The elder statesman's strong remarks have spurred a national discussion about the positive power of religious diversity as columnists, editorial boards and religious leaders speak strongly in favor of Gen. Powell's stand.
