New Web Resource Invites Users to "Change the Story"

A new online educational resource about the American Muslim community has recently launched. The Web site, ChangeTheStory.net, offers wide-ranging information and multimedia content which is especially relevant since many Americans admit they know little about Muslims. The goal of "Change The Story" is to provide accurate and comprehensive information about American Muslims and Muslims worldwide, thus replacing the misinformation and stereotypes about this community that still exist in the media and society at large.

The site is divided into three main sections, "Meet Your Neighbor," which features video interviews with American Muslims, "Change the Story," which offers comprehensive facts about the American Muslim community and Muslims around the world, and "Change the World," which offers information about social advocacy, service projects in Muslim communities and resources for visitors to promote more accurate stories about Muslims in the news.

The site was created by Intersections, a multi-faith, global initiative of the Collegiate Church of New York. Intersections developed "Change The Story" in partnership with Auburn Media, part of the Center for Multifaith Education at Auburn Theological Seminary, and See3 Communications.

Among the multi-faith members of the Web site’s advisory board are Rabbi Justus Baird, Director of Auburn’s Center for Multifaith Education; Dr. Zahid Bukhari, Director of Georgetown University’s American Muslim Studies Program; Father James Gardiner, of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops; and Ms. Anisa Mehdi, Emmy-award winning journalist and commentator on Islam and Muslims in the U.S.

Intersections was founded in 2007 and works in partnership with other organizations to empower marginalized groups, encourage interfaith dialogue and advocacy, and draw attention to the consequences of conflict both at home and abroad.
