For the first time, the Department of State, under Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, has created a new position to engage with Muslim communities worldwide. Its head, State Department and National Security Council veteran Farah Pandith, speaks to Altmuslim here in her first official interview.

Eileen White (Director, Writer, Producer, Camera) is an award-winning filmmaker, whose films and videos have been exhibited in the metropolitan New York area, most notably as part of the High Falls Film Festival, the International Festival of Cinema & Technology, and the New Filmmakers Series at Anthology Film Archives. Her film, "The 'C' in Allah" was named a finalist for the 60-second spot category.

Ahmed Ghani is a twenty year-old filmmaker/actor from Michigan. "America: A New Home " was a finalist for the American Muslim Life category.

Rania Ajami is a Lebanese filmmaker based in New York and London. Her film, "A Dangerous Idea " was a finalist for the American Muslim Life category.

Muslim Men Against Domestic Abuse (MMADA) is an organization dedicated to domestic tranquility. According to the Web site, a member will "make a commitment never to engage in, support, or remain silent about the physical, psychological, and emotional abuse of Muslim and non-Muslim women and children."

Irfan Rydhan is a "Multi-Media" artist who has a degree in Architectural design from U.C. Berkeley. He and his partner, Javaid A. Malik, started their own Video and Film production company: Jam-Productions.Com in 1998, as one of the first Muslim owned production houses in the Bay Area. They have created several documentary films, videos and TV programs, most of which relate to Islam and being Muslim in America. Leading American Muslim and Arab organizations have publicly condemned the shooting at the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum, one of the capital’s most visited sites, on Wednesday afternoon.  The gunman, an 88-year old white supremacist, fatally wounded a security guard before he himself was wounded after police returned fire.

Afdhere Jama grew up in Somalia. He is a progressive Muslim who lives in California. His film, "Ani " was a finalist for the American Muslim Women category.

Sarah Zaman and Jolene Pinder both directed, edited and produced "Bismillah". The films is a first feature-length documentary for both women. Zaman was born in Pakistan and is currently a Producer for Voice of America's Urdu program.  Pinder is an Associate Producer at Arts Engine, Inc./Big Mouth Films. Their film, "Bismillah" was a finalist for the American Muslim Women category.
