Ohio Treasurer of State Names American Muslim C.F.O.

Ohio State Treasurer Richard Cordray recently named Amer Ahmad, of North Canton, Ohio, as his Chief Financial Officer. Ahmad, 33, was born in Ohio and is of Pakistani descent. He holds a Master of Business Administration from Harvard University and a Bachelor of Arts from Columbia University. Ahmad has extensive experience in finance and banking. He previously served as Vice President for Corporate Finance at William Blair & Company, L.L.C. in Chicago. Ahmad has also worked with banking firms in Tokyo and New York.

"Bringing a professional of Amer Ahmad's caliber to state government -- and indeed, back to Ohio -- is a significant accomplishment," Treasurer Cordray said in a statement released by his office. "His background in finance and familiarity with banking and markets gives us a sophisticated skill level that is needed and will be deeply useful to the Treasury as well as other state agencies."

Cordray noted that Ahmad's ability to understand and translate increasingly complex financial practices and systems would be invaluable. "Amer’s ablities and experience underscore the Treasury’s commitment to finding efficiencies and maximizing earnings for the state while employing the safest and most secure practices," Cordray said.

Ahmad and his wife, a Cincinnati native, live in Powell with their two daughters.  Samar Kaukab Ahmad is a lawyer and a graduate of The Ohio State University, both undergraduate and law school.
