What's New in the American Muslim Community

New American Muslim Magazine Launches

Elan, meaning “announcement” in Arabic, Farsi and Urdu, is a cosmopolitan publication committed to incorporating all interpretations of Islam.

“There is so much diversity in every angle of American Muslim society,” says Founder Moniza Khokhar, President and Publisher of Wahid Media Ventures. “We’ve tried to portray this in Elan in trying to create a broad definition of an American Muslim.”

“After 9/11, I sensed a lot of frustration in the community that the media wasn’t representing American Muslims fairly. I wanted to give back to the community and thought this would be a great way to show and celebrate its diversity outside the boundaries they are put in,” she says.

Khokhar, who was raised in Chicago, Illinois and Basking Ridge, New Jersey, started her venture with the idea of creating a forum for other Muslims like herself.

The magazine reports on topics of interest to the young professional community such as current events, fashion trends, cutting edge products and popular locations.

Elan will be produced quarterly and be nationally distributed in all major bookstores.
