New comic book: Islamic-themed THE 99 to launch in the U.S.

Set to debut in American stores on October 17, 2007, THE 99 is the world's first superhero project based on Islamic culture and history. Taking its cue from the Muslim belief that God has 99 powers or attributes, the monthly series' storyline follows a diverse cast of young superheroes from multiple ethnic backgrounds who have each been given special powers by one of the 99 mysterious Noor Stones.

THE 99 has been successful in international markets since its launch in 2006. The series was developed by Dr. Naif Al-Mutawa, the founder and CEO of Kuwait-based Teshkeel Media Group.
