What's New in the American Muslim Community

Elan the Magazine Launches New Website

Elan the Magazine has recently launched their new Web site, www.elanthemag.com. The site features an interactive blog intended as a forum for young Muslim professionals, and visitors are encouraged to share their own opinions by commenting on articles or creating their own profile within the site.

The magazine is a lifestyle publication and a contemporary voice for young Muslim professionals. Elan means "announcement" in Arabic, Urdu and Farsi. This translation, along with its mission to help Muslim youth create a universal identity regardless of race, age, sect, or choice of practice, proves that the magazine is a showcase for individual opinions, achievements, and concerns.

News, politics, culture and entertainment are all popular topics on the elan blog, as well as sections such as WTFatwa (highlighting the "quirky" side of Muslim life) and Profiles on well-known individuals in the global community. The site currently features the July theme of the month, "finding love online," as well as an interview with the team behind Eva Khurshid (a popular Muslim fashion line).

"There are conversations happening everywhere and everyday about Muslims, especially by the media and politicians. What we rarely hear publicly are the voices of the Muslim youth, who are the true forces instigating change all over the world, from Iran to Pakistan to right here in the U.S.," said Moniza Khokhar, President and Publisher of elan. "As the leading authority on global Muslim youth culture, it is more important than ever for elan to this platform for young, educated, professional Muslims to share their voice on the Internet, the most important platform of our generation."
