A.R. Rahman, one of the most prolific and acclaimed film composers in India, won Oscar awards Sunday night for Best Original Score and Best Original Song for the hit film Slumdog Millionaire. The highly successful drama film tells the story of a young man from the slums of Mumbai whose appearance and grand prize win on the Indian version of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? leads television executives to believe his success is the result of cheating rather than the consequence of a hard life on the streets of India's biggest cities.

Obama Appoints Eboo Patel to Interfaith Advisory Council |
|
Leading American Muslim interfaith leader Eboo Patel was appointed Feb. 5 by President Barack Obama to the newly formed White House Advisory Council on Faith-Based and Neighborhood Partnerships, a 25-member interfaith group of clergy members, religion scholars and service organization leaders. The Advisory Council was established to facilitate the effective implementation of the White House’s faith-based initiative programs.
