| American Muslims Condemn Terrorism |
American Muslims Respond to TerrorismAmerican Muslim groups have repeatedly issued statements condemning terrorism in all forms wherever it has risen, not because they are asked to, but because of the basic Islamic principle that no one has the right to take innocent life. They have done so from the beginning of the spate of attacks in the name of Islam, since the events of September 11, 2001 when a coalition of leading Muslim groups condemned the attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon. Continuing to do so, they work with law enforcement agencies on all levels to curb extremism. American Muslims say that terrorists pervert their religion and that they are just as concerned as anyone about the future and safety of our families. Statements Against Violence, Here and AbroadIn the wake of the attacks of September 11, 2001, Muslim groups in the U.S.and around the world issued statements condemning the violence as antithetical to Islamic teachings.
