Imam Ali Siddiqui is a peace and labor activist and an advocate for justice who is immersed in the Liberation Philosophy of Islam evident through his 34 years of community service including spiritual/educational development and service to low wage workers, the sick and the incarcerated.
He is also a Friday Khatib, Islamic teacher, Muslim Chaplain, youth advisor, poet and writer, involved in the teaching Islam, comparative religion, history and contemporary issues to Muslims and non-Muslims.
Imam Siddiqui is the Founding member of the Islamic Peoples Movement, co-originator of “New Trend”, an Islamic magazine and the founding director (along with Hon. Linda Sanchez, now the member of the Congress) of Orange County Interfaith Committee for Worker Justice.
He has been on speaking tours to Belgium, Canada, Germany, Great Britain, Iran, Pakistan, Switzerland and across the USA. He frequently presents the Islamic perspective and a Muslim point of view on current affairs to non-Muslims and Muslims. He has been very active in organizing seminars, workshops, teach-ins, retreats and conferences to promote justice, Islamic awareness and interfaith understanding. He has also organized programs during Black History Month in Pomona, CA; Claremont, CA; Indianapolis, IN and Denver, CO.
He has received many commendations for his work, service, and scholarship including the title of Imam in 1994; Islamic Teacher in 1982, 2000 and 2004; Commendation by the Muslim inmates of California Institution for Women in 1994; the Community Leadership Award in 1997 given by Human Relation Council; Community Disaster Volunteer in 1999; Husband and Wife Team Volunteer Award given by Pomona Valley Community Hospital in 2001; the Distinguished Service Award given by the United Nations Association in 2001; and, the Giant of Justice Award by CLUE in 2005.
As a Guest Lecturer, he also teaches various aspects of Islam, Islamic Civilization and Religions in America at the Cal Poly University, Pomona, CA; California Baptist University, Riverside, CA; Disciple of Christ Seminary, Urban Ministry Program, Claremont, CA; University of La Verne, La Verne, CA; and Mt. San Antonio College, Walnut, CA. He has also taught at the Denver Free University, Denver, Co.
