Firas Ahmad is Deputy Editor of Islamica Magazine. Founded in 1992, Islamica is widely considered the foremost popular magazine of Muslim thought, opinion, literature and analysis. Firas joined the magazine in 2004 and has worked to develop key editorial and media relationships. He has also worked to help shape the overall editorial vision of the magazine and establish its presence in the North American media landscape.


Firas writes a regular column for Islamica titled “Truthiness” and has written on a broad range of issues including the media, public policy, foreign policy, politics, religion, finance, international development and culture. His commentary and essays have appeared in print and on air in national and international media outlets including the BBC, Washington Post, Common Ground News, Newsweek/Washington Post’s “On Faith” blog, Voice of America, Ethics News Daily, altmuslim.com, The American Muslim and others. He has given talks, lectures and presentations on Islam and the media in various forums including the Society of Professional Journalists annual convention, Americans for Informed Democracy, the Islamic Society of North America’s annual convention and others.


Firas is a graduate of the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University where he concentrated in political and economic development. He also graduated cum laude from the School of Foreign Service at Georgetown University where he majored in International Economics and also obtained a certificate in Muslim Christian Understanding from the Center for Muslim Christian Understanding.
