300 Young Muslim Leaders Set Agenda for Change

Hundreds of young Muslim leaders from 75 countries converged on Doha, Qatar, from Jan. 16 -19 for the Muslim Leaders of Tomorrow conference.

The result of the conference’s workshops and meetings was the creation of an "Open Letter to World Leaders of Today from Leaders of Tomorrow." Penned and signed by all 300 leaders, the letter is filled with policy recommendations that outline ways of improving relationships and creating constructive frameworks for collective action among Muslim communities, the larger societies in which they are a part, and their governments.

Conference attendees came from countries such as the U.S., Senegal, Egypt, Turkey, India and Indonesia and drew from their respective professions, academic studies and cultural milieus to build a global conversation among Muslims who are both minorities and majorities in their own societies.

Discussions surrounded topics such as authority in Islam, political radicalism, religious extremism and what common values can be identified and bolstered and then translated into action items that help create a "common good."
