Winner, Animation/Music: American Muslims In Their Own Words
Mediha Sandhu’s film, “Arranged,” is designed to speak to Pakistani and Indian families (like her own) and confront the tradition of arranged marriages. The film is a beautiful animated monologue that traces one strong young girl’s growing understanding of the tradition, and chronicles her rebellion against it. Sandhu hopes it will raise awareness and bring about change.
Raised in New Jersey, Mediha Sandhu, 25, is an American Muslim with a passion for telling stories through design and digital art. Sandhu is currently a BFA student pursuing a degree in Fine Arts. She also works with UmmahFilms, creating diverse portrayals of Muslims that dispel dominant stereotypes.
