On January 23 and January 24 2008, ABC’s Good Morning America aired a two-part series with young people from varied religious traditions, all part of the Interfaith Youth Core (IFYC). IFYC builds mutual respect and pluralism among young people from different religious traditions by empowering them to work together to serve others.
The group’s founder, Eboo Patel, told anchor Robin Roberts that he believes that youth are change-makers and that his creation is a movement to build religious pluralism around the world. “It’s the deepest part of my faith as a Muslim,” he says of his quest to find a solution to how everyone can come together to build understanding and serve others in spite of different religious backgrounds. He found it in IFYC. “We’re trying to create a positive conversation,” he told Good Morning America.
Roberts facilitated a discussion with Muslim, Jewish, Hindu and Christian youth on the show– just some of the diverse group brought together by Patel, an American Muslim who has created a unique service organization based on shared values and a vision for the future.
