What's New in the American Muslim Community

Country Singer Kareem Salama Releases New Album

Singer-songwriter, football fan, law school graduate — Kareem Salama is a man of many interests and talents. He recently returned from London, where he performed at Wembley Stadium with Sami Yusuf, Outlandish and other acclaimed artists in a “Muslim Live 8” event that raised funds for the crisis in Darfur. He has also been busy launching the Student University Press Poll, a college football poll that lets university paper editors and college students vote each week to determine school team rankings. And he has been studying for the bar exam, having graduated from law school this past year.

In his spare time, Salama managed to record a second album, titled “This Life of Mine.” Compared with his first album, which had a country-folk flavor, this collection of songs marks a shift to a truer, solid country sound. The lyrics retain Salama’s messages of peace and faith.

“The music on this album is sometimes fun and sometimes serious but, I pray, always inspired,” says Salama, whose name translates into “Generous Peace” — the title of his first album.

“This Life of Mine” is available for purchase on his Web site (www.kareemsalama.com) and will be available on iTunes later this year.
