Prince Among Slaves
is a new PBS documentary, set to premiere on national public television
next year, that explores the earliest roots of the American Muslim
experience. The inspiring 60-minute documentary tells the true story of
Abdul Rahman Ibrahima Sori, a West African prince who was enslaved in
Mississippi for 40 years before he finally won his freedom and returned
to Africa.
Prince Among Slaves is narrated by Hip-Hop artist and actor
Mos Def and includes reenactments directed by Emmy Award-winning
director and actor Bill Duke. The film is based on the book by Terry Alford and was produced by award-winning filmmakers Michael Wolfe and Alexander Kronemer of Unity Productions Foundation.It premiered in Atlanta on August 25 to an audience of 900
people.
