Kabir Helminski is Co-Director of the Book Foundation, developing Islamic books and educational materials. He speaks widely on Islamic spiritual subjects, often in an interfaith context.

Helminski has been a publisher of spiritual literature, a translator of the works of Rumi and others, and a Shaikh of the Mevlevi Order which traces its roots back to Jalaluddin Rumi. His books on spirituality, Living Presence and the Knowing Heart, have been published in at least eight languages. One of his most recent publications is The BeliefNet Guide to Islam, an introduction for the layman. He has toured as Shaikh with the Whirling Dervishes of Turkey bringing Sufi culture to more than 100,000 people.

Helminski was the first Muslim to be invited to deliver the Wit Lectures on Contemplative Spirituality at Harvard Divinity School. He is also co-director of The Threshold Society (Sufism.org) and a core faculty member of the Spiritual Paths Institute (spiritualpaths.net), as well as a faculty member of the New Chartres School of Wisdom University.  He has a B.A. in the History of Religions from Wesleyan University, an M.A. from the Institute of Transpersonal Psychology and a Ph.D. from Selcuk University in Konya, Turkey.

He lives near Santa Cruz, California.
